Upgrading AirLink OS routers that are already reporting to the AMM.

To maintain consistency across your fleet, it is recommended that the gateways use the same version of firmware and application.

The general process to upgrade firmware on a fleet is as follows:

Upload firmware and application to AMM

    1. In AMM 2.18, AirLink OS firmware and applications cannot be downloaded from the central repository directly into the AMM. Instead you first have to go to Semtech’s Source website at https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/amm/gateway-software-packages/ and manually download the appropriate firmware and application to the local computer.

NOTE: For AMM 2.18, the only supported application is aos-delsadapter. There is no support for other third party applications. A third party application can still be installed on the AirLink OS router by using an external docker registry, however it will not be managed by AMM 2.18.

    2. Then as an administrator user, login to the AMM and go to Admin > Software > Repository.
    3. Select and specify the locally saved firmware and select Start.
    4. This will start the process for uploading the firmware into AMM. The upload may take some time to complete.
    5. When it is finished, select and specify the locally saved application and select Start.
    6. This will start the process for uploading the application software into AMM. The upload may take some time to complete.

Once the software images are uploaded into the AMM, it is now possible to upgrade the firmware on the AirLink OS routers.

NOTE: It is highly recommended that a fleet is upgraded in stages, that allow sufficient time between stages to field test the change.

    1. As an administrator user, login to the AMM and go to Admin > Software > Distribution.
    2. Select an AirLink OS router and then Upgrade Gateway Software. You can also select multiple AirLink OS routers to upgrade many at a time. However this should only be done after the firmware has been field tested.

Note: If more than one type of gateway is selected, the Upgrade Gateway Software wizard will ask you to specify which platform you want to upgrade.

    3. Next, the software version that you would like to upgrade to, will be presented in a drop down list. Select the firmware version that you wish to upgrade to.

Note: For AirLink OS firmware, the software is labeled as AOS-Core-Software.

    4. You will be asked if you would like to schedule this process.

Note: All updates are scheduled according to Pacific time, either PST or PDT.

    5. Finally a summary of what the upgrade will do will be shown. Select Apply to start the operation.
    6. You can view the status of the upgrade by going to Admin > System > Operations. A reboot will automatically occur after the firmware is applied.
    7. After the AirLink OS router has had its firmware upgraded, the applications software must also be upgraded. Go to Admin > Software > Distribution. Select the AirLink OS router(s) and then Install/Upgrade Application(s).
    8. Select the aos-delsadapter-AOS-Generic. The version will be automatically picked based on what firmware version is on the gateway.
    9. You will be asked if you would like to schedule this process.

Note: All updates are scheduled according to Pacific time, either PST or PDT.

    10. A summary of what the upgrade will do is shown. Select Apply to start the operation.

Note: There is no operation created for application install/upgrades.
