    Hypervisors

    Hypervisors are the foundation that AMM runs on top of, allowing it to manage virtual machines and resources. This release supports three types of hypervisors, so you can pick the one that works best for you.

    Customers are responsible for selecting the bare metal hardware and hypervisor that best suits their environment. While Semtech will do its best to help get the system running on the chosen hypervisor, it’s important to note that testing has only been performed on a limited set of hypervisor configurations.

    1 Supported Hypervisors

    From AMM 2.18.1, three types of hypervisors are supported.

    • VMWare EXSi 8 and later
    • Nutanix AHV (Acropolis) 10.3.1.2 (Acropolis OS 7.3.1.2) and later
    • Microsoft Hyper-V in Windows Server 2025 version

    1.1 VMWare EXSi

    Tested Environment: AMM 2.18.1 was tested with VMWare ESXi 8.0.0 installed on the Dell R650xs.

    VMware Tools Version: open-vm-tools-12.2.5-3

    The network adapter was VMXNET3 and the disk controller is SCSI.

    1.2 Nutanix AHV

    Test Environment: AMM 2.18.1 was tested on a single-node Nutanix Community edition cluster deployed on a Dell PowerEdge R650 server. The network adapter was VIRTIO and the disk controller is SCSI.

    Versions Tested: AHV Hypervisor 10.3.1.2, AOS 7.3.1.2

    Nutanix Guest Agent: Installed automatically during the AMM setup (agent version: 4.1.1)

    PCI Disk as Boot Disk: Not supported.

    Mixed Disk: Mixed disk configurations, e.g. SATA + SCSI and IDE + SCSI, are not supported.

    1.3 Microsoft Hyper-V

    Tested Environment: AMM 2.18.1 was tested on a Microsoft Windows Server 2025 Standard deployed on Dell PowerEdge R660xs. The network adapter type was synthetic and the disk controller is SCSI.

    Versions Tested: Microsoft Hyper-V Windows Server 2025

    Secure Boot Requirement: The Secure Boot template must be changed to Microsoft UEFI Certificate Authority

    Agents installed: hypervkvpd and hypervvssd (agent version: 0.0.30)

    Dual SCSI Controllers - Not Supported: Ensure both the boot disk and data disk are attached to the same SCSI controller (SCSI 0).

    2 Limitations

    The following limitations have been identified.

    Reference Description
    13245 AMM deployment on Microsoft Hyper-V does not support disks attached to multiple SCSI controllers.
    13244 AMM deployment on Nutanix AHV does not support mixed mode (IDE + SCSI, SATA + SCSI) storage disks.
    13243 AMM installation on Nutanix AHV fails with PCI type storage disk.
